State Govt set to take over Centaur Hotel | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, July 21 (KNS): State Government is set to take over Centaur Hotel from Hotel Corporation of India (HCI) soon. Sources told KNS that Managing Director HCI, Arvind Jadav had a detailed meeting with state’s Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal on Thursday where modalities for the take over were discussed. They said Jadav will hold final meeting with the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah later in the evening in which state’s top bureaucrats would also be present. Set against backdrop of majestic mountains and offering an amazing view of Dal Lake, Centaur Hotel is jointly owned by Jammu and Kashmir government and HCI. Sources said that state government took the decision to take over Centaur after protests by hotel staff and some other organizations of Kashmir valley over purported move of HCI to lease out hotel to Mumbai based real estate development company DB Realty for 30 years for Rs 90 crore. The controversial deal was quietly struck last September when the state-run airline’s subsidiary, HCI, gave a lease to manage Centaur Hotel to DB Realty, whose Managing Director Shahid Balwa has been arrested by the CBI for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum scam. J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has been convincing Union Civil Aviation Ministry to handover the hotel to the state government. (KNS)
