EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, July 21 (KNS): Fire and Emergency Services Department is planning to fill up 700 vacancies in the coming months.
Talking to KNS Director General F&ES, Ghulam Ahmad Bhat said that 40 new fire-tenders would be augmented in the Department soon. “To perform better job on the ground the department will be provided with high-tech facilities like 40 new anti-fire fighting-tenders and 10 Motor Cycle tenders,” he said.
Bhat said that some vacancies in the Department need to be filled. “Although the department has enough staff and facilities some 700 more posts need to be filled,” he said.
The Director General said that they had been successful in combating the fire incidents. “From the previous ten years our department has been successful in stopping the deadly fire incidents and less damage occurred during this time,” he claimed adding they were extensively supported by people.
Bhat said that the department has been a multidimensional in combating the problems. “The department not only curbs fire incidents but have been well into other disaster management activities like earthquakes,” he said.
The Director General said they recommended teaching school children with anti-fire tactics. “It has well succeeded,” he said adding seminars should be held to teach people the tactics of curbing the fire.
He said that they had initiated helpline telephone to make fire service faster. “The telephone helpline is the best means to reach the affected but some people misuse it and disturb our teams,” the Director General said.
Bhat said that there was need for more infrastructure to reach to far away places. “Although there are 164 fire service stations, however some areas are very far from the stations and are difficult to reach out due to which the fire incidents are increasing,” he said adding dense localities also play foul with the department.
