JCUM calls on Sibbal, urges early appointment of VC CU-J | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 21: A delegation of Jammu Central University Morcha (JCUM) met Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibbal and Union Minister for Sports Ajay Makan on July 18.
The delegation comprising of Prof Virender Gupta of Jammu State Morcha, Uday Chand of Duggar Pradesh Party, Rajinder Singh Jamwal of Peoples Revolutionary Movement, Rampal Sharma of Dogra Liberation Front, Balvinder Singh of Rashtravadi Morcha, Mohan Singh of Duggar Manch and Sonu Sharma of JJSF.
Anil Anand, a senior journalist hailing from Jammu also accompanied the delegation.
The delegation presented a Memorandum to Sh. Kapil Sibbal asking him for taking steps for starting Jammu Central University from this year without any further delay. The delegation submitted that about two years have already elapsed since the announcement of the Central University but it has not yet started functioning putting the students of Jammu province and the people in general at great loss. As such there is a great resentment among the public and among the students community in particular.
The delegation also requested the HRD Minister that the Vice- Chancellor of the University be immediately appointed among the competent academicians belonging to Jammu Province so that Jammu Central University can be established with a rapid pace.
Minister told the delegation that fresh recommendations and a new panel of the selected academicians for the post of the Vice- Chancellor of the University have been sent to the President of India a week back and assured that the Jammu Central University shall start functioning from the present semester.
However, JCUM appealed to the people, social organizations and the student community in particular because of whose struggle Jammu Central University was sanctioned to continue their movement till the goal of establishing the University is not achieved and the Vice Chancellor for the University is not appointed.
In its meeting with Ajay Makan the delegation requested that Jammu region should not be ignored in the allocation of funds and development of sport activities in J&K State. The delegation highlighted the discrimination meted to the people of Jammu region who always stood for the national cause, in the past. The Minister assured the delegation that justice shall be done with Jammu region in all the matters falling under the jurisdiction of his ministry.
