Will Rahul express sympathy with Kulgam rape victim? | An act of lawlessness' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 21: The rape of a girl from Kulgam has shook Kashmir. Kashmir watchers believe the incident is serious enough to punch holes in the `peace' that the state government `achieved' by reckless and indiscriminate use of the Public Safety Act and by curtailing the democratic rights of the people. The victim went missing on July 19 and was recovered today . According to her she was abducted by men in uniform and gang raped. She said she could identify the culprts. Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani has called for strike on Saturday to protest the incident. The government is worried as a similar incident in Shopian in 2009 sent life out of gear for two months in Kashmir and around six months in Shopian. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the incident and demanded high level probe. Condemning the incident the PDP spokesman said this was yet another instance of lawlessness that has made lives and honour of the people insecure. He said such incidents are on a rise and the government seems to be bliff-fully ignoring the autrocities that are committed almost every day on the weak and vulnerable. The spokesman said a thorough probe and investigations must be taken up immediately into the incident. Full facts should be brought out and the culprits involved in this and earlier such incidents should be brought to book and given severe punishment. The Chief Mibnister, Omar abdullah is expected to take stern action against the culprits for a variety of reasons ranging from ensuring peace in the Valley to living up to reputation of being Rahul Gandhi's close friend. Gandhi, it may be mentioned visited a police station in Uttar Pradesh to express sympathy with a woman who was allegedly raped in the police station. The people of Kashmir have lost faith in the law enforcing agencies. The CBI probe into Shopian rapes was rejected by the people. Similarly the findings of Justice Muzaffar Jan Coommission were also rejected. Since 1996 successive state governments have ordered around 120 probes. The findings of only four probes have been made public. The National Conference is fast losing ground to PDP in South Kashmir. Rahul's friend is, therefore, in trouble. Will come to Kulgam to help him in the garb of expressing sympathy with the latest rape victim ?
