Govt missing or blissfully ignorant towards plight of villagers ......?

EARLY TIMES Report
JAMMU, July 21: The residents of village Jabbowal in border sector Arnia resorted to a gesture on Wednesday which no one would appreciate, no matter it was to register anger and protest against the government. But the step, even though seen as a symbolic act in desperation, only reflected neglect of local administration and government in general towards their plight aggravated on account of lack of even basic facilities and water. Irked and ......the protesters tried to cross the fence in a bid to show that in absence of the facilities in their villages they would rather prefer to cross over to Pakistan. The BSF soldiers however failed this attempt and stopped them from crossing over to other side.
For any onlooker it was like a dramatic act that happened suddenly when a group of protestors demonstrating near the border moved towards the wired fence on the international border in this sector. Some of them even climbed up the poles and tried to cross over to other side. Undoubtedly, it was a gesture 'performed' to grab the attention of all concerned towards their problems. The intent was perhaps that by resorting to such an act, the difficulties and hardships they are facing which otherwise go unnoticed , unheard and unattended, the administration would pay some heed and get to know what they want. It did click in the sense that not only this gesture caught the attention of BSF officials who prevented them from moving forward and assured them their cause to be conveyed to concerned but also 'compelled' some officials in the administration to come to the spot and expectedly gave an assurance of settling all their issues.
So far so good. A different picture for media phographers to capture the moment that made some news. But actually the incident is quite unfortunate on twin fold. The basic thing that comes to fore from the development is that government both state and centre is still blissfully ignorant about the lack of facilties in the border vilages or just that they take things for granted in these areas in terms of providing them . This attitude is despite the fact that border area inhabitants suffer most of all the people in the times of trouble along the borders , not to speak of the turbulent times when the the two nations are at real war with each other.
One only wonders as to why central government which has plenty of central schemes for development of border areas specifically does not make things accountable from the concerned as to where do the fat funds go and on what projects and programmes these are spent if border villagers do not accrue any benefits . If the basic facilities like water and electricity is deprived to the residents of border villages what is the loud talk of electricfication in rural and far off areas meant for and for whom it such projects with mega watt capacities are supplying power. Why the PHE authorities fail to regulate supply of pwoer to these villagers under the scorching heat conditions forcing them to come on road and choose to cross over to other side.
While the role of local MLA is also in question for lack of these facilities, it is primarily the state government which it seems is blissfully and dangeroulsy ignorant about such things, which if allowed to continue can truly turn dangerous besides causing embarrasment and humilation to the government at both state and centre. The local administration instead of saving the image at last hour under such 'dramatic circumstances' must also be alert and active towards the genuine issues of the villagers. However, the latter in turn must also know that their acts are not at praiseworthy nor would these be appreciated at any quarter, whatever may the intensity of their problems. If they think, the 'grass is greener' from other side and their problems would be of less intesnity once they cross over, they are groosly mistaken.
