Human intelligence network strengthened in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu,July 22 : The recent successes the security forces achieved in eliminating and arresting over a dozen militants and in busting various rebel hideouts from where large quantities of arms and ammunition besides explosives were recovered are said to be the result of improved coordination among several intelligence agencies. Government sources said that after the last year's unrest and civilian strife it had been decided by the Union Home Ministry,in consultation with the state Government,to initiate measures for coordinating the activities of the IB,MI,BSF(G),RAW and the state intelligence agencies. After detailed discussions among the senior officers of these agencies it was decided to raise the human intelligence network. Sources said that under the plan more sleuths and officers of IB,RAW,MI,BSF(G) and the state intelligence agencies were deployed in various sensitive areas in the state, especially in the valley and in Doda,Kishtwar,Poonch and R ajouri areas for the purpose of gathering of specific inputs regarding the activities and plans of the militants. According to sources. these agencies engaged educated youths as their field sources. Explaining it the sources said that if earlier the number of field sources was two or three in a particular area the number was raised to five or seven. This helped the agencies to improve their surveillance on the separatists and on militants. It is because of better coordination among these agencies and on account of upgraded human intelligence network that a number of women were taken into custody for questioning regarding their links with various militant groups. Sources said that it was the result of better intelligence setup that the troops, guarding the border, were informed in advance about the plan of groups of militants to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir. They said it was the outcome of the efforts of the Military Intelligence (MI) and other agencies that the troops succeeded in foiling eight infiltration bids militants had made during thee last four months.
