| BJP Kissan Morcha demands amended LAB in monsoon session | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 22: The Union government should table amended Land Acquisition Bill in the forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament incorporating the suggestions of the BJP Kissan Morcha submitted to the President from time to time during the last one and half year, this was stated by BJP Kissan Morcha National vice-president & former MP Suresh Chandel while addressing a press conference at party hqrs. on Friday. Suresh Chandel said that the Congress-led UPA during its previous tenure had tabled the Land Acquisition Bill in the Parliament in 2007 but was allowed to lapse for their insincerity towards the farmers. After studying the bill, our Kissan Morcha came to conclusion that it will not benefit the farmers and instead harm their interests throughout the country. As we have been continuously agitating for the cause of farmers and are well aware of their problems and plight, memorandums suggesting amendments have been submitted to the President of India from 220 districts of the country by our morcha activists. It is unfortunate that the farmers are given bullets whenever they come on roads seeking their rights, which is total injustice. Chandel said that Morcha’s amendments contain that instead of fertile land, barren land should be acquired, the purpose for which the land is being acquired should be made public before acquisition and should not be subsequently changed for any other purpose, the farmers should be properly rehabilitated before taking over their land, a law on the pattern of forest land protection should be enacted for agricultural land and instead of giving one time compensation, a farmer should get same for 30 years out of the benefit of the project set up on his acquired land. Later, Suresh Chandel chaired a meeting of Kissan Morcha office bearers and other leaders to have an assessment of the Morcha’s programmes being organised in the state. It was decided than over 150 activists of Kissan Morcha will reach New Delhi on August 3 to be part of the morcha activists from other parts of the country with a motive to develop public opinion and press for tabling the amended bill in monsoon session. BJP Kissan Morcha state president Karan Singh, Morcha National Executive Member S. Charanjit Singh Khalsa and Morcha General Secretary Capt. (Retd.) Kasturi Lal Sharma were also present in the press conference. |
