Retrenched youths working as GRS in RDD protest against RRD officers.
Block NH outside DC office Kishtwar.

Kishtwar July 23:- More than 200 retrenched youths working in Rural Development department as Grahmin Rozgar Sevak (GRS) under MGNREGA in Kishtwar District held a strong protest outside DC office Kishtwar against the decision of department of RDD for disengaging them from their services and blocked the National highway outside DC office Kishtwar for more than two hours, disrupting the vehicular movement on every busy Kishtwar.
Over 200 hundred youth under the leadership of PDP labor union president Rehmatullah Malik assembled outside DC office Kishtwar and blocks the main road for more than two hours. The agitating youths raised slogans against the officials of RDD department and demands for reengaging them under MGNREGA. While addressing the youth Rehmatullah Malik condemns the action of ACD Kishtwar for making the agitating youths jobless. He said that on one hand side Chief Minister Omar Abdullah claims that his government is providing job to the unemployed youths of the state and on other hand side officers like ACD Kishtwar disengaging more than 350 youths from his jobs. He demands for reinstatement of all the retrenched GRS immediately and threatens to launch an agitation against the RDD department Kishtwar in case the government fails to reinstate all the retrenched GRS workers.
Later a deputation of youths along with Rehmatullah Malik called upon DC Kishtwar , who assured them that he will look into the matter at an earliest, so as to redress the problems of the agitating youths. On the assurance of DC Kishtwar the agitating youths life the blockade outside DC office Kishtwar.
When contacted RDD officers informed that the youths were engaged as GRS in RDD on the need basis according to the availability of funds under MGNREGA. The officer said that at the time of appointment, all GRS have submitted a written affidavit in which they agreed in principal that they will not make any claim regarding permanent job in the department. The officer said that in case the government provides more funds, they will reengage them again on need basis.
It is worthwhile to mention that during appointment of these GRS, the appointing authorities have put all the norms to whirlwind and appointed the youths behind the sanction of 98 posts of GRS for Kishtwar District, both under political influence as well as allegedly by adopting corrupt means of appointment
