Kashmir Committee calls on BAJ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 23: Members of the Kashmir Committee headed by its Chairman Ram Jethmalani, eminent Jurist and senior Advocate Supreme Court of India, Madhu Kishwar and Waheed-Ur-Rehman as its members, today called on Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) in an impressive gathering organized by Bar Association Jammu in Justice VK Gupta memorial Hall, High Court Complex, Jammu. The interactive session has organize after a request in this regard was made by the Committee which wanted to gathered the views of Bar Association Jammu in finding a solution towards the challenges in J&K. After a formal reception accorded to the Committee members with the presentation of bouquets, Vikram Sharma, General Secretary, Bar Association Jammu in its inaugural address urged the Kashmir Committee members that J&K being a State of three regions viz Jammu, Kashmir and ladakh, any solution being explored by the Kashmir Committee in ignorance of the aspiration of people of Jammu and ladakh regions would be an exercise and futility. He informed the Kashmir Committee members that the Bar Association Jammu being the apolitical representative organization of Lawyers has always been in forefront while propagating the cause of Jammu region. Ram Jethmalani, Chairman Kashmir Committee while in his introductory address highlighted the reasons for its formulation and the importance of its role in finding solution to the Kashmir issue. Jethmalani informed that the Bar members that he was almost on the verge of finding a consensus formula s after his interaction with the group of lawyers from across the borders. B S Slathia, President, Bar Association Jammu at the outset of his address stressed that the Kashmir Committee should realize that the problem is not just Kashmir centric but the people of the other two regions of Jammu and Ladakh are also aggrieved of the discriminatory policies of successive Governments, and therefore requested the Chairman of the Kashmir Committee to change its nomenclature as Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh Committee. The Bar Association Jammu thereafter came with a unanimous resolution condemning the lathicharge on the students demanding immediate opening of Central University in Jammu and strongly urged the Govt. to make the Central University functional henceforth. |
