Kashmir Committee members meet PDP leaders | “Self Rule has potential to solve all dimensions of Kashmir problem” | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 23: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that Self Rule document prepared by the party has potential to solve external and internal dimensions of the Kashmir. Interacting with members of the Kashmir Committee headed eminent jurist Ram Jethmalani who called on party leaders at Jammu, PDP leaders said that all sections of the society must be taken on the board for starting a meaningful dialogue for the solution of the problem. Other members of the Kashmir Committee included V K Grover, a former diplomat, and Madhu Purnima Kishwar. Interacting with Kashmir Committee members PDP leaders said that Self Rule document was prepared by incorporating wishes and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the state. PDP leaders further said that document prepared by their party was the only viable solution of Kashmir problem as it aimed at addressing both internal and external dimensions of this issue. Self Rule is a document of promises and reconciliation with out any compromise with the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and it has the potential to write a chapter of peace and development in this region. Reiterating demand of the opening of the traditional routes, PDP leaders said that before 1947 Jammu and Kashmir was connected through different routes, with Central and South Asia but all the routes were closed after accession. They emphasized on the need of developing Jammu and Kashmir as economic free zone to attract maximum foreign direct investment. They further demanded that facilities should be provided to felicitate cross LoC trade. Strongly advocating dismantling of the barriers for harass free cross LoC travel and trade, PDP leaders told members of the Kashmir Committee that restrictions imposed on free movement of people and commodities have only deprived the region of the vast potential of economic activities that could have transformed the lives of its people. They demanded creation of requisite infrastructure for further facilitating cross LoC trade and demanded that facility to exchange currency should also be provided to the traders. During the interactions, PDP leaders said that governance deficit was one of the reasons of increasing alienation of the people. They said that the present government headed by Omar Abdullah has failed to connect with the people of the state. Those present in the meeting included Trilok Singh Bajwa, Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin, Deepinder Kour and Shanti Devi.
