ERA spends Rs 296 cr on water supply, sanitation projects | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 23: Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency has so far spent Rs 296 crores for the Multi Sector Project for Infrastructure Rehabilitation (MIRP) spread in various parts of Jammu City under loan-1 from Asian Development Bank. Under water supply sector, ERA has so far created drinking water potential of 24.10 MGD from 53 deep drilled tube wells and 1.80 MGD Boria Intake structure against targeted potential of 25.06 MGD (55 tube wells). At present 17.82 MGD water potential is being utilized by PHE. The balance potential shall be utilized within next 2-3 months after completion of ongoing OHTs and pipe interconnection works. Against targeted storage capacity of 9.45 MGD by means of 58 Over Head Tanks (OHT) and Ground Level Service Reservoirs (GLSR), ERA has so far created 7.90 MGD storage by commissioning 49 OHT & GLSRs. 335 Kms Water Supply pipe lines have been laid out of which 270 kms pipelines stand interconnected with PHE distribution system and are under use. ERA has also undertaken work of replacement of old and worn out pumping machinery of 14 critical pumping stations with an estimated cost of 7 crores. The work is likely to be completed by end of next month which will supplement the pumping capacity of water supply to a larger extent. To cater the demand of regular Power supply, ERA has taken up augmentation of 33/11 KVA substation at Boria and 6 receiving Sub-Station at Muthi, Company Bagh, Roop Nagar, Channi Himmat, Babliana & Seora. Besides this dedicated feeders will be provided to PHE installations. Under drainage and sanitation sectors ERA completed 30 deep drains/nallahs. ERA has also commissioned and handed over 21 Pay & Use toilet blocks to Jammu Municipal Corporation. These blocks will be maintained by Sulabh International for 30 years. Besides above ERA has provided 16 water tankers and 28 garbage cleaning equipments worth Rs 5 crores to PHE and JMC respectively. Director (Urban) J&K ERA, O P Dubey conducted field visit of Sainik Colony Sec. F&D, Greater Kailash, Deeli, Channi Himmat, CPS Boria, Boria Intake, Rudraksh Mandir, Paloura, Roop Nagar and Relief Commissioner Office complex. During inspection of various water supply schemes, he emphasized the need to work in a systematic manner for timely completion of the schemes so that the benefits accrued are passed on to the general public.
