JAMMU, July 23: Jammu: Renowned spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has strongly advocated the duration of Shri Amarnath Yatra to be continued for two months from next year in order to accommodate ever increasing rush of the pilgrims for this annual holy pilgrimage, albeit if weather permits so. Sri Sri, who has been made chairman of the sub committee to look after yatra duration affairs by the Shrine Board said the number of yatris visiting the holy cave this year is expected to 7 lakh, which is a record.
The spiritual Guru who was here in connection with an inaugural function in the Gandhi Memorial College premises while talking to media however asserted that in view of the tragic deaths of pilgrims enroute Yatra , the Shrine Board would focus on upgradation of medicare facilities along both the routes upto holy cave. "The prime responsibility and concern has to be on the pilgrims' health and safety........the trend of heart attacks many pilgrims had this year has to be arrested by providing medicare facilities along the route besides having thorough check ups of pilgrims before they set on Yatra", Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said while expressing concern over death of 82 pilgrims till date this year.
"Keeping in view the heavy rush of pilgrims this year the figure is likely to may 7 lakh......it would exceed the number next year as well which is why there is need for increasing the duration and period of Yatra ," Sri Sri said, substantiating his point . There is also a visible change on ground and atmosphere has turned peaceful.....local people are also happy about this change and wish this peaceful atmosphere to continue, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who returned from Srinagar today said about his assessment of situation in Valley. " There is perceptible change in valley......it is normalcy and certainly a better time than seen last year and efforts must be continue this yearning of peaceful atmosphere', Sri Sri said.
The spiritual Guru who for some time has been engaged in talks with Hurriyat leaders and called on them during the current visit to state as well however parried a question about his meeting with them this time." It was a courtesy call........the dialogue toll place in a cordial atmosphere ", he said , albeit without divulging any details about the meeting or its outcome. The spiritual leader however asserted that despite Mumbai blasts dialogue between and India and Pakistan must continue but the same time terror activities need to be dealt with firmly.
Asserting that Lok Pal Bill is must in the present scenario to keep check on corruption in the society, the spiritual Guru, who is founder of 'Art of Living' founder also favoured spiritual courses for the politicians. "I think 'Art of Living' course is also must for politicians and it would benefit them in many ways besides making them strong morally and ethically," Sri Sri said while replying to a querry.
Supporting the Anna Hazare crusade against corruption, he said in view of scams after scams surfacing in the country, it is the need of the hour and bills like Lok Pal are must in order to make the society corruption free and allow people to live in a corruption free atmosphere.
