| Smuggling of mobile phone inside Kot Balwal jail | | Rashid Sheikh placed under suspension | |
Jammu, Nov 28 B R Kundal, Financial Commissioner Home Department has placed under suspension with immediate effect the then superintendent Kot Bhalwal jail Abdul Rashid Sheikh, who had seized mobile phones and SIM cards from the custody of militants and other criminals. During the suspension period he will remain attached with DG Prisons. The order said that pending inquiry, Abdul Rashid Sheikh (the then superintendent Central Jail Kot Bhalwal) presently functioning as staff officer to Director General of Prisons has been placed under suspension with immediate effect for misconduct and dereliction of duty. It may be recalled that Rashid Sheikh was earlier shifted out of the jail and was posted as staff officer to DG Prisons after his interviews appeared on television and in newspapers exposing the nexus between the jail authorities and militants running parallel government in the jail. Meanwhile in reply to the show cause notice Rashid is reported to have submitted his reply to the government explaining that he was surrounded by the media men outside the main gate of the jail and he had only informed them about his shifting from the jail adding that in his 28 year service career he had remained loyal towards his profession and the state government and would remain till his last breath. DG Prisons on November 20 had issued a show cause notice to Rashid Sheikh asking him to explain his conduct why no action should be taken against him for talking to media and leveling serious charges against the state government.
