Tara, Bhalla lay foundation of Office Block at Fruit Market

JAMMU, JULY 23-Deputy Chief Minister. Tara Chand in presence of
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla on
Saturday laid foundation stone of 4-stotrey office block at Fruit
Market in Narwal, coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.84 crore.
District Development Commissioner, Mr. Sanjeev Verma, Vice-Chairman
Jammu Development Authority (JDA) Mr. Vinod Sharma, Commissioner,
Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Mr. S C Sawhney, Director Land
Management, Mr. Babu Ram, President Chamber of Commerce and
Industries, Mr. Y V Sharma besides other senior officers of JDA and
JMC were present on the occasion.
Addressing a large gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister informed that
the complex would be constructed on 7000 sq feet area with facilities
of parking slot, toilet blocks, meeting hall, officer rooms and
canteen. He asked the JDA to complete the complex by October 2012 by
using quality material so that the complex could be utilized for
commercial purposes. He said Government has resolved to create
concrete assets across the State.
The Deputy Chief Minister asked the officers to remove encroachments
from JDA land adding that ‘it is the only source for generating income
for employees and creating assets for institution. He said for proper
rehabilitation of urban poor and slum dwellers, the Government is
planning to construct flats under BSUP at Sunjwan, Rajiv Nagar and
Bhagwati Nagar in which Rs. 15.46 crore has been earmarked,
construction works are nearing completion. He informed that Government
has earmarked Rs. 24 crore for providing financial assistance to
homeless urban poor for construction of their dwelling units under
Basic Services to Urban Poor Scheme (BSUP).
In his address,. Bhalla said several prestigious projects worth
crores of rupees are under pipeline in the Gandhi Nagar like Rs. 8
crore fully air conditioned auditorium and Rs. 6 crore teacher’s
bhawan at Government Girls High School, Gandhi Nagar. He informed that
Government is planned to construct maternity hospital and nursing
college at Gandhi Nagar area on available sites.
