11 grid stations proposed for border areas of Jammu distt: Shabir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JULY 24: The Government has drafted a plan to develop eleven power receiving grid stations in the border areas of Jammu district to improve the power supply scenario in the areas considered as rice bowl of the state. This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Power, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Mr Shabir Ahmed Khan while interacting with a deputation representing the border areas of Bishnah tehsil. Senior Power Development Department (PDD) functionaries, including Superintendent Engineer Jammu S K Puri, Executive Engineer M&RE Gurbaksh Singh Ex-eng STD II Avinash Puri, besides Sarpanhs and Panchs of Chinghia, Treava and Jabbowal who led a delegation of about three hundred were present on the occasion. Responding to the demands of the members of the deputation, the Minister said that Mr Omar Abdullah led Coalition Government was keen to improve the social infrastructure to ensure better power, water education and other services to the people across the state. He said that far-flung areas, including border habitations are being given focused attention to bring these at par with the urban areas with regard to the availability of basic amenities and essential services. Giving details about the measures being taken for the up-gradation of the power infrastructure in the border areas, Mr Shabir said that as many as eleven grid receiving stations are being set up at various places to facilitate the farmers who need uninterrupted power for operating their irrigation hand pumps. He said the border areas of Jammu are major producer of paddy and they need adequate power for higher production. The Minister asked the PDD functionaries to ensure early start of work on the Receiving station in Treava area of Bishnah–one of the locations identified for the construction of the facility under the proposed plan. The Minister also instructed the concerned department to replace worn out transmission wires and poles in the area as short term measure to avoid breakdowns so that the farmers may not face problem in operating their hand pumps, particularly during the current paddy season.
