CS for theme based developmental model for artisans

SRINAGAR, July 24: Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal emphasized on preparing a theme based developmental model for the welfare of artisans of Shehar-i-Khas with focus on community centric initiatives.
“Identify small pocket areas of traditional artisan communities for their socio economic development.” he said adding that only those interventions should be taken up which can show results within short period.
While chairing a meeting on development of artisan areas and clusters in Shehar-i-Khas, here today, the Chief Secretary said that all available resources under various schemes should be converged and respective departments should prepare micro- plans addressing specific needs for the overall development of the areas where the craft is located.
“For the model to be a success, organised and active participation of the craftsman and members of local artisan community should be ensured and their specific problems addressed”. Madhav Lal said.
Potential areas with high concentration of specific craft based community of Shehar-i-Khas were discussed in detail during the meeting and it was decided that the scheme be kick started at an earliest for the benefit of artisans.
“Take on the spot field visits of the potential localities to demarcate the area for development and to ascertain the interventions required to be carried for the successful implementation of the project.” Chief Secretary directed.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner, Srinagar, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mehraj Ahmed Kakroo, Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority, Dilshada Khan, Chief Engineer, R&B, Mr. Nazir Ahmed, Director Handicrafts, Munshi Muzaffar Hussain, Chief Town Planner,
Srinagar, Iftikhar, Vice Chairman LAWDA, Irfan Yaseen, Director, CDI, Sharique Farooque, Special Secretary to Chief Secretary, R K Verma and Saleem Beigh.
