EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 24: After waiting in hibernation for past several months the Jammu based student groups, research scholars and faculty members have once again managed to ignite the issue of undue delay caused in the opening of the central university Jammu and the appointment of local Vice-Chancellor.
After vocal street protests by the students of different degree colleges the ongoing campaign has started receiving wider response from the research scholars of Jammu university and Jammu based political parties and social organisations. By joining hands together at this crucial juncture the students groups and others may create a bigger pressure group to force govt's hand to expedite the process of appointment of new vice chancellor of central University, Jammu.
Addressing a media conference on Sunday the Jammu University Research Scholars Forum leader Suresh Magotra threatened indefinite closure of the university if the state government wasted more time in expediting the process of selection of a Vice chancellor.
The research scholars also vent their ire against the leadership of the Jammu region and its elected representatives for stabbing them in the back and remaining mute spectators over Jammu centric issues.
Criticising their role, JURSF leaders Sunday said all MPs and MLAs representing Jammu should resign as they are incapable of raising voice of people belonging to the region.
He said these people are befooling the masses in the name of Central University Jammu but we want to ask the Chief Minister the exact reasons for undue delay He said, if the Vice-Chancellor appointed for the Centre University Jammu has not been able to join for whatever reason, that does not mean there is dearth of talent and no other person from Jammu or anywhere else cannot come and join the central university Jammu.
On the other hand PRM leader Rajinder Jamwal today lashed out at the state government and condemned the police brutality and highhandedness on peaceful protest by students in support of central university Jammu.
He equated the style of Omar Abdullah as no less than a dictator who with the tactical understanding with the UPA government is hell bent to destroy the democratic setup by his obstinate, adamant and authoritarian approach where the voice of a common man is being gagged and he is not allowed to project his grievances through democratic means.
He said we do not understand the reasons behind undue delay and keep in abeyance the appointment of vice chancellor when all other 15 universities established with same legislation have started functioning & have completed one year.
PRM leader also demanded immediate appointment of local academician as vice- chancellor as has been agreed by the HRD Minister.
Peoples Forum and various other social organisations area already working on ground zero to build a strong case in support of local vice chancellor for Central University Jammu
Meanwhile, Youth and student wing of Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today declared and made it clear that the agitation launched for establishment of the Central University of Jammu CUJ will be further intensified and not allow the authorities to suppress the voice of the Students of Jammu regions who are agitating for CUJ under the banner of National Panthers Students Union (NPSU).
Pushvinder Singh Manhas (Sr. Vice-President Young Panthers &
Incharge NPSU) while taking to the media persons at Party Headquarters Jammu, disclosed that the ongoing agitation can not be crushed by the authorities and for further intensifying the ongoing agitation. Hunger Strike will be started from Monday onwards and boycott of the colleges will be continued until and unless the demand of establishment of CUJ is conceded. He said that the voice of the students of the Jammu region can not be suppressed by the use of brutal force by the authorities.
