Dy CM distributes cheques worth Rs 53 lakh to BSUP beneficiaries

JAMMU, JULY 24 – Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand today distributed cheques worth Rupees Fifty Three lakh to beneficiaries under BSUP, total Fifty Five urban poor people were presented the cheques for reconstruction of their depleted houses
On the occasion, Mr. Tara Chand said that exemplary development initiatives launched by the government would benefit all segments of the society and go a long way in improving socio-economic profile of the people.
He said focused attention is being paid to uplift underprivileged and deprived sections of the society and special schemes have been launched to rehabilitate and improve living standards of this stratum of society.
“With active support from Central government prestigious urban development projects have been launched in the state and in these projects special provision have been kept to rehabilitate poor people,” said Mr. Tara Chand.
The function was organized by JMC to distribute cheques to Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) beneficiaries of Jammu city.
Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation Mr. A.K. Sawhney, Chief Accounts Officer and other officers of the corporation were present during the function.
Under this scheme for reconstruction of existing depleted house, each beneficiary would be given Rupees Two lakh and Seventy Five Thousand in three installments.
Giving details of other projects taken up under BSUP, the Deputy Chief Minister said that under prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) special attention is being paid to rehabilitate urban poor, adding that under the scheme various projects have been undertaken in urban centers of the state.
In Jammu, one project at Sunjwan worth Rs 14.24 crore is underway, for shifting Rajiv Nagar residents; the project once completed would have 608 dwelling units. In the project 256 units have already been completed up to roof level and work on another 80 units has been completed up to plinth level.
Another project of Leper colony at Bhagwati Nagar is coming up fast at a cost of Rupees One crore and Forty Three lakh, in which thirty six dwelling units would be constructed.
