Soz attends environmental awareness programme | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 24: President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee Prof Saifuddin Soz attended an Environmental Awareness Programme at Zadibal today, organized by Majestic Voluntary Organization. He was Chief Guest at the function. Prof. Soz lamented the fact that both heritage and environment were in great danger in Kashmir, particularly the water bodies due to unstopped encroachments and apathy of the common people. He exhorted the people to raise a powerful movement for protection of their environment and ecology and their precious heritage. He told the people that apart from Dal and Wullar Lakes, the water bodies like Anchar, Khushal Sar, Brari Nambal etc were in great danger because of some vested interests who have no respect for law and the authorities concerned were watching the situation helplessly. Prof Soz emphasized that there was need for a mass movement. Earlier, Soz visited Boat Men’s Coloney, Bemina, Narwara Crossing and Kursoo Padshahi Bagh and found people of these areas facing great hardships due to extremely bad sanitary conditions and absence of drainage and sewerage system. He raised several issues with Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Srinagar Development Authority.
