PDP blames govt for sabotaging its conference | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, July 25 (KNS): Opposition Peoples Democratic Party Monday alleged that state government was not granting permission to them in holding panch and sarpanch conference in Srinagar on July 28. Addressing a press conference, senior PDP leader and former deputy Chief Minister, Muzafar Hussain Beig said, “We had written a letter to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to grant permission to us to hold the conference on July 12. But despite three reminders since then, no reply has come from the administration.” “8000 people are expected to participate in the conference, but it seems NC led government is afraid of it. Government had earlier issued a notification that panches and sarpanches would be administrated oath from July 19-26. But when they heard we are organizing the conference on July 28, they kept the oath ceremonies on the same day,” he added. Saying that government was afraid of PDP conference, Beig said, “It is not Chief Justice or Chief Minister who has to administer oath to panches and sarpanches but Block Development Officers are doing so. They (government) can easily do it on July 29,” he said. The PDP leader said that they don’t want any confrontation with the government on the issue. “Let anybody from government come forward and ask us to postpone the conference for July 29, we will do it. Either they should accept our request or they should request us to postpone,” Beig added. The former deputy CM alleged that NC was trying to buy panches and sarpanches. “Though government claimed that the elections were held on non-party basis, but the CM recently claimed that NC stood first which is a lie. PDP will issue a list of candidates who won on their mandate soon,” he said. “NC is trying to buy even panches and sarpanches of Congress that is why they have deferred the process of formulating panchayats,” he alleged and advised the NC that instead of purchasing panches and saprpanchs, they should be used for grass roots level development. “They (panches and saprpanchs) have mandate from people, their view should be taken seriously,” he added.
