| Gulam Nabi Fai’s arrest in USA is certainly a setback for the Kashmiri Separatist Movement as they were being liberally funded by his ISI run NGO Kashmir American Council (KAC) for carrying out subversive activities in J&K and promoting Pakistani stand on Kashmir world over especially in USA by influencing opinion of US politicians, Congressmen, Press, American Intelligentsia, NGOs through a number of ways including high profile seminars and symposia in prestigious 5-star Hotels in US, Europe and Middle East. Fai’s arrest is also a greater setback for those attending his seminars and symposia in various countries on prepaid travel tickets, stay in five star hotels and enjoying his Hi-Fi hospitality including financial funding for carrying out his work in J&K. These beneficiaries included Human Rights Protagonists, Journalists, Academicians, Scholars, so called Intellectuals, Self Styled NGOs with no following etc.
As is well known, this regular attending of conferences, seminars and symposia by specially selected few individuals has been going on for over a decade. And surprisingly the GOI who should have been more worried about influencing of public opinion in favor of Pakistan by such dubious methods adopted by ISI, turned a blind eye to permitting these participants both from J&K and rest of the country and allowed them to attend these conferences year after year. Encouraged by this attitude of Govt. of India these participants especially from J&K even floated local NGOs in the name of Human Rights Protectors, Fundamental Right of Expression, and Resettlement of KPs with separatists consent etc to espouse Fai’s cause of building up opinion favoring separatists in support of Pakistan. In return, these elements were liberally funded and were helped wherever possible in settling their off-springs in or out side India by arranging their admission in foreign Universities with scholarships and out turn jobs where ever possible.
It can be noticed from names figuring in the Fai’s list of permanent invitees that a number of Track-2 team members, renowned journalists of the country, judges, one of the interlocutors (all apparently in the good books of the Indian Govt.) were not only the visitors (who enjoyed the liberal hospitality of free passage, 5-star boarding and lodging and liberal funding for their enjoyment) to the various Fai’s conferences but were active participants. These participants were vocal in criticizing the Indian Govt. for its policies vis-à-vis Kashmir against the National Interests. That is what Fai was trying to do and achieve for creating anti-India feelings all around world especially in USA. These Hi-Fi persons and so called intellectuals made it so easy for Fai to achieve his target.
Had it not been USA that acted against Fai, Govt. India would not have bothered for it for years to come. They being a ‘Liberal Democracy’ has given ‘full freedom of speech to its enemies within’ to tarnish the country’s name the world over. Have GOI not given freedom of speech to kashmiri separatists to say what they want to say, carry out terrorist activities whenever they want, hold the entire public at ransom for days together, kill peaceful people, drive out whole population of lacs of people from their land of birth of their ancestors, not allowed to resettle them for past over 20-years till now. It is the present Central Govt. that believes that appeasement of such elements will make them change their mind in favour of India and they would choose to live a peaceful life both for them and for their children.
G N Fai and his Bhais working here may have still some well wishers who were lured in by his Bhais, both young and old, they be better careful and desist from participating in gatherings arranged by the groups they have formed in the state.
