7/25/2011 11:59:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, July 25 : Prominent voices of Jammu region under the banner of Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF), an apex body of various groups and forums fighting for early start of Central University Jammu, Monday began their hunger strike to put pressure on the state and the centre govt to expedite the selection process of appointment of vice-chancellor.

Led by former session Judge Paviter Singh, president of the forum four other members namely Narayan Singh Jamwal, president Rajput Sabha Jammu, Inderjeet Khajuria president All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association Jammu, Davinder Sharma, former president All India Brahman Federation and senior BJP leader Ramesh Arora, sat on hunger strike demanding justice for the student community of Jammu and to end discrimination in the field of education.

Sitting on the dharna the aggrieved members warned govt against playing with the sentiments of the people of Jammu region as they are being victimised for none of their faults I want to pose a direct question to the union govt why they are sitting silent over teh issue of appointment of a vice chancellor of the Jammu central university.
Talking to media persons during the hunger strike Pavitar Singh warned the authorities that if it does not take practical action in the matter by appointing a competent person as vice chancellor of the University, preferably a local one, the agitation will be intensified.

We will take the message of anti-Jammu stand of the centre and the state government to people at the grass root level, Singh said adding in the next round of fast we will organise hunger strikes at tehsil and block levels,
Inderjeet Khajuria said that a sum of Rs. 1,800 cr which was earmarked by the Centre for spending on creating infrastructure for the University in the last fiscal year has lapsed, as a result of no action taken by the authorities in the matter. He said that the same amount earmarked for spending this year will also lapse in case concrete actions are not taken to start the university, by appointing a Vice Chancellor.
In the absence of Vice Chancellor or administrator of the university, even the land earmarked for the same could not be acquired, since the revenue and forest authorities have to hand over the land to a responsible university authority.Ramesh Arora said that the unholy alliance of National Conference and the congress party are working against the interests of the people of Jammu region and it is high time like minded people of Jammu would have to join hands together to take the fight against discrimination to its logical conclusion.
