| 8-years on, BEACON fails to complete Sopre byepass bridge | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, July 26 (KNS): Even after eight years of construction work, the bridge at Sopore Bypass is yet to be completed causing immense hardships to people of the area. The deadline for the completion of the Brige was by the end of 2010. Sources said the formation of Sopore Bypass Road was contracted to a local construction firm M/S A R Kabu in 1998-1999. “But the firm was unable to complete the work in the stipulated time,” they alleged. Sources said that the construction of bridge was the ultimate remedy of the mess they had been facing at the Bypass. “It is only after the construction of bridge that all the problems will be solved,” they said. After the completion of the Bridge, the traffic on Kupwara-Srinagar will flow smoothly and there won’t be any traffic jams. However, the Beacon officials said that the uncertain conditions in the area slowed the pace of the work. “Although the bridge had to be completed by 2010 but it was the uncertain conditions due to which we could not complete it,” Chief Engineer BEACON, Brigadier, R S Rawath told KNS. The Member Parliament, Baramulla-Kupwara constituency, Sharif-ud-Din Shariq told KNS that he had taken up the issue with concerned union ministry in New Delhi. “They assured me that the work on the project would be completed soon,” he said. Shariq acknowledged that people were facing hardships due to the incompletion of the bridge.
