| Prisons department withdraw security cover to Rashid Sheikh | | | Jammu,Nov 29 A day after state government handed over suspension order to former Jail Superintendent Kot Bhalwal Central Jail Abdul Rashid Sheikh his security cover was also withdrawn along with driver of the official vehicle on Wednesday by the jail authorities. The step was taken by the state prisons department despite receiving intelligence reports warning militants belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad are working on a plan to plant IED's and to target Sheikh Abdul Rashid as they percieve him to be responsible for enforcing discipline among the terrorist cadres lodged in jail. It may be mentioned that soon after Abdul Rashid seized mobile phone and SIM cards in October 2006 exposing the nexus between the jail authorities and militants involved in smuggling of mobile phones and SIM cards Rashid had started receiving threats from militants. Following these threats DG Prisons has also directed state police to provide suitable PSO to him and adequate security cover to his family in Srinagar. Not only this his family members were also threatened by the militants forcing them to vacate their house in Kashmir valley. Since then his children studying in Kashmir are also camping here in Jammu fearing for their lives. Sources told KIP that recently a report was submitted by the intelligence agencies to IG Kashmir and Jammu range along with DG Prisons suggesting that some militant group may attack Abdul Rashid Sheikh and kill him as they consider him as their enemy ever since he seized mobile phones and SIM cards from inside the Kot Bhalwal premises. Abdul Rashid Sheikh when contacted said that my senior authorities have left me in lurch so that i become easy fodder for the militants. He said militants had warned me that they would throw me out of the KotBhalwal jail and now they want to kill me. |
