BJP appoints committee to investigate scams in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, July 26: Demanding an impartial inquiry into the Fai links with Indian activists, intellectuals and journalists, BJP National Secretary Kirit Somaiya has raised question-mark on the credibility of Kashmir Interlocutor Dilip Padgoankar and expressed apprehension that the money from Pakistan’s ISI might have been diverted to promote militancy in Jammu & Kashmir and other parts of the country. Somaiya, on one day visit to Jammu, was addressing a press conference here on Tuesday alongwith state president Shamsher Singh Manhas and national executive member & chief spokesperson Jitendra Singh. He said it is strange that while FBI of America has come out with disclosures about Ghulam Nabi Fai and his associates in India, the UPA government has chosen to maintain silence on the issue. He said the government should place all the facts in the matter before the opposition and the public without sparing anybody whether he is politician or intellectual or journalist. Somaiya said that the recent scams which the party has decided to investigate in J&K is the one involving unauthorized encroachment of land around the Srinagar Airport. He further said that it being the most sensitive airport of the country from security point of view, cannot afford such laxity and the party has therefore taken a serious note of this. Launching the campaign against corruption from Jammu Somaiya informed that to study and investigate the major scams in the state, the party has constituted a Special Committee with Jitendra Singh as its state co-ordinator and Chander Prakash Ganga, Chander Mohan Sharma, Satish Sharma, Sat Sharma, Jugal Kishore Sharma (MLA), Sunil Sharma, Balbir Ram, Bansi Lal Bharti and Rajinder Sharma as its members. When asked about A. Raja’s allegation that Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram was also involved in 2G scam, Somaiya said the BJP has demanded resignation of Chidambram and if he refuses to resign the party will urge upon the President of India to dismiss him from the Union Council of Ministers. Somaiya referred to Jammu-Kashmir as being the second most corrupt state of the country under the NC-Congress coalition government and also asked for probe to account for the crores of rupees of Central grant that the state is receiving on the pretext of security related matters. On the occasion, Jitendra Singh said that out of the 33 major scams identified by the party so far, 11 are being taken up for immediate follow up. These include Airport scam, land scam, Tawi scam, IWDP scam, Education Deptt. scam, MNREGA scam, ETT scam, IAY scam, NBCC scam , forest scam and recruitment scam. Jitendra Singh informed that the team led by Kirit Somaiya will undertake spot visits to different districts and the first such visit is scheduled to district Jammu, Kathua and Samba on August 10 & 11.
