Over 5400 pilgrims leave for cave shrine from camps | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 27 : About 5400 pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for Amarnath cave shrine situated at 13,500 feet in south Kashmir Himalayas despite rains early this morning. The sky was cloudy after night-long rains on both Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam tracks, official said. He said over phone from Baltal that 3,142 pilgrims, including women, children and Sadhus left the base camp early morning for the cave shrine. Similarly, 2,200 yatris left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on this traditional route. Many of the yatries are expected to start their journey on foot towards the cave. He said the yatris, who had night halt at different points on the track also have started their journey towards the cave shrine. About 6 lakh pilgrims from different parts of the country had darshan of the Ice Shivlingam in the holy cave ever since the commencement of the 46-day-long pilgrimage from June 29. The annual pilgrimage will conclude on August 13.
