Director SKIMS threatens KNS reporter | ‘You filed story against me; I’ll teach you a lesson’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, July 27 (KNS): The Director Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura, Dr Showkat Ali Zarger Wednesday threatened a reporter of KNS who had recently filed a story regarding alleged favoritism and nepotism in selection of post-doctorial courses of DM and M.Ch. “You had done a story against me previously also. I’ll teach you a lesson,” Dr Zarger told the reporter when he called him for his comment regarding a story. The KNS on July 16 had carried a story how some meritorious students were ‘dropped’ in interviews/practical examinations. Pertinently one of the selected students Dr Abid Showkat is son of Dr Zarger. “Ethics demand that director shouldn’t have conducted the selection process himself as his son was appearing. How can process remain fair when son is appearing and father is conducting the examination,” a senior doctor in the SKIMS asked. There is a procedure in Public Service Commission also that any member whose relative is appearing in the examination can’t remain as supervisor. Though KNS had accommodated full version of the Director in the story, it seems he couldn’t digest the truth. Meanwhile, sources said, the Director SKIMS on Tuesday evening allegedly misbehaved with Minister for Animal Husbandry and IT, Aga Rahullah. Rahullah had gone to the SKIMS to see his mother who was being treated in Intensive Care Unit. “As the minister was wearing traditional kurta pajama, the Director, Dr Showkat Ali Zarger, couldn’t recognize him. He (Dr Zarger) asked the minister to leave the ward. This infuriated Person Security Officers (PSO) of the minister. As PSO of the Director saw his boss was being manhandled, he intervened. The rival PSOs hurled blows on each other in which one of the PSO of the Director was injured. He was being treated in the SKIMS,” they added.
