Vice Chairman NDMA to discuss risk management in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, JULY 27: Jammu & Kashmir is a multi hazard prone State which is afflicted by a number of natural and man-made disasters. Avalanches, landslides and floods are a recurring phenomenon and the entire state is located in a very high seismic zone. Keeping these imperatives in view, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has taken upon itself to assist the State in Risk Management and Disaster Preparedness. M. Shashidhar Reddy, Vice Chairman, National Disaster Management Authority is visiting Jammu & Kashmir for four days from today. He will be holding discussion with Core Commander, Northern Command, on various disaster management issues especially the involvement of Army in Capacity Building and Awareness generation. Reddy will also be attending a Workshop on Risk Management and Disaster Preparedness being organized by NDMA in collaboration with the State Government and this workshop will be inaugurated by Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister J&K. The workshop will focus on early warning systems, seismic vulnerability and preparation of State Disaster Management Plan and District Disaster Management Plans. It will also deliberate on the road map for disaster preparedness in the State.
