Rugby fast growing sport among women

Srinagar: July 28: The J&K Rugby Association in collaboration with Indian Rugby Football Union is going to conduct 4 days Rugby Sevens workshop focusing on women starts here at Govt College for Women, M A Road, Srinagar from Thursday.
Indian Rugby team captain and Regional Development Manager, North & West Zone, Nasser Hussain is conducting the four-day Rugby workshop, involving 50 girls/ women ,
These girls are from different schools, colleges, clubs as well as different districts.
The workshop is a lead-up to selection of the national team for the forth-coming Asian Rugby Women's Sevens Championship 2011, to be held in Balewadi Pune on October 1 and 2.
The said Sevens Workshop will cover the areas including Understanding Sevens Rugby, Sevens Playing Structures, Offensive Patterns in Sevens, Defensive Systems in Sevens, Sevens Positional Awareness.
The players were happy & trying very hard to prove their mettle. Their morale is high, an exhibition match between Rugby Rebels & Presentation Convent Rugby teams were played.
Sarmad Hafeez , Additional District Magistrate & president, J&K Rugby Association, was the chief guest on the opening function of this event & interacted with the players. & distributed prizes among guests of honors & officials,.
Speaking on the occasion, Nasser Hussian, captain, Rugby Indian mens team expressed happiness & said sports activities are the important part in the life & rugby Indian will encourage J&K youths & they also should prepare them to prove their mettle at national as well as International level. He said that Rugby is gaining popularity among the youths in the state & is fast growing sport in the state especially among girls/women & it is our endeavor to promote this Olympic Gold Medal sport. He said that the females of valley will be encouraged for the promotion of rugby in the state. The tournament is being witnessed by the families of the players also who throng the stadium in huge numbers.
