Delay in opening of CU-J | Series of protests continue to rock city | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 28: The protests over delay in functioning of Central University-Jammu (CU-J) are getting more and more vigorous with each passing day. The voice of resentment against the non-establishment of CU-J today again rocked the different parts of the city as several political, social as well as Students’ organisations held series of protests. Jammu & Kashmir Peoples’ Democratic Party held a strong protest demonstration at Bikram Chowk against state and central government for their failure to announce appointment of Vice Chancellor Central University-Jammu (CU-J). The protesters demanded to make the CU-J functional by appointing its Vice-Chancellor at an earliest. Led by Vikram Singh, Girish Sharma Distt Vice President Jammu Urban (Y) , Pankaj Gupta and Sachin Sharma, hundreds of PDP workers assembled at Bikram Chowk shouting slogans against state and central govt. PDP leaders also condemned the police action and said that the students are fighting for their rights. He alleged that Jammu region is neglected by the government PDP today took a serious note against the recent lathi charge on the students and condemned incident. PDP also expressed its concern over the delay in the opening of Central University for Jammu. Addressing the protesters, PDP leader Vikram Singh said, "Government is playing with the sentiments of the Jammu people. That's why the functioning of Central University of Jammu is being hampered unnecessarily." He added that it’s only Central University of Jammu that was not functioning however; all other Central Universities are blooming. Girish Sharma demanded a local should be appointed VC of the university in order to fulfil the aspiration of the people of the Jammu region. The relay hunger strike of Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF) entered into 4th day here at Raja Jamboolochan Memorial Park, Purani Mandi. The forum members of Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha including B.S. Jamwal (General Secretary), Rangil Singh Jasrotia (Secretary), Avtar Singh Jamwal, Dhruv Singh and Devender Singh sat on hunger strike from 10 am to 5 pm. Other organizations and Sabhasa also participated in moral support by sitting along with fasting leaders. Besides Pavittar Singh Bhardwaj (Chairman JPPF) others who joined the dharna include Inderjeet Khajuria (President All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association), Th. Narayan Singh (President, Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha), Prof. Devender Sharma (Ex. President All India Brahman Federation), Rajiv Mahajan (President Shri Ram Sena), Dr. Ram Paul Sharma (Dogra Liberation Front), S Balwinder Singh Bhatia (President Rashtrawadi Morcha, Dev Raj Baru (Ex-President Brahmin Sabha, Prof. Virender Gupta (President JSM), Anan Sharma (President Tanker Owners Association), Pritam Sharma (President Kranti Dal), Ram Pal Shastri (President Dogra Jyotshi, Pujari, Shastri Sangh), S. Gajan Singh (President Janta Ki Awaz), Kamal Singh Jamwal (Purani Mandi Welfare Association), Dr. Agnishekhar (Panun Kashmir), Rajesh Chandan, Rakesh Kumar, Tilak Kashyap of Kashyap Rajput Sabha, Uday Chand (President Duggar President Party), ML Sharma, Avinash Bhatia, Prof. BL Bhardwaj and Amrit Magotra (Secretary JPPF), Ajit Adyal (President All J&K Pensioners Association). Hundreds of people participated apart from the above Sabhas and organizations in support of the relay hunger strike and raised slogans demanding appointment of local Vice Chancellor and early functioning of Central University enabling this student to get admission so that no further semester is lost. While speaking on the occasion, the Chairman JPPF, Pavittar Singh condemned the use of force against striking students community and warned the administration to refrain from harassing them as they are protesting peacefully to achieve the functioning of Central University which is being delayed deliberately resulting in wastage of their studies semester after semester. He appealed the media and press to provide full coverage to the sufferings of people and students community being faced by them due to the delay in making the sanctioned Central University functional. In protest against the delay in the opening of Central University-Jammu, the students of Government Degree College RS Pura under the banner of Jammu Joint Students Federation (JJSF) today boycotted their classes. Led by JJSF’s Jammu University President Jatinder Singh, hundreds of students raised their voice against the alleged petty politics of Kashmir Centric politics along with the centre government. Protesting students alleged that there is blatant discrimination with Jammuites as despite announcement of a CU for Jammu till date its session has not started whereas on the other side Kashmir CU is working smoothly. The protesters also resented the use of force to crush a peaceful protest by innocent students who raised their voice for their rights. Addressing the students, JJSF leader said this is not only today but Jammu has always sacrificed. The State Government only promises to develop the region but fails to do it .Don’t know what type of policies that the government is pursuing? Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) in a press statement has called for “Jammu Bandh” on August 17 in protest against the delay in opening of Jammu Central University and discrimination with the Jammu region. Sunil Dimple President JWAM gave ultimatum to Omar Abdullah Govt to open the University by August 15. |
