Pak FM talks peace, infiltrators attack army along LOC | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 28 : A soldier was killed and two others were wounded when a group of infiltrators from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) attacked a patrol party near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara. Official sources said one of the three wounded soldiers has succumbed to his injuries. A defence ministry spokesman said today that the operation was still on and details were being collected. Lt Colonel Brar said that troops guarding the borders, noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side near the LoC at Hayhama yesterday. When challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened fire with automatic weapons. The fire was immediately returned, he said. Reinforcements were rushed from nearby camps and the area was cordoned off to foil any militant attempt to escape. He said the operation was on when the reports last came in. GOC 15 Corps Lt General Hasnain has recently warned about more infiltration bids from PoK after one of the top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander was killed by troops in Lolab in Kupwara. He said a large number of militants were waiting across the border in launch pads to sneak into this side to boost morale of the militants in Kashmir who feel totally depressed and without a leader. However, he said troops were alert to foil any infiltration bid. |
