BJP condemns lathicharge on unemployed youth

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jul 28: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned brutal use of force and lathicharge on over two thousand youth who had gathered outside the Ploura BSF camp at Jammu on a false call of recruitment.
In a handout issued here today, National Executive Member and Chief Spokesperson Dr. Jitendra Singh today said that it was an absolutely uncalled reason for lathicharge on unemployed youth who could have been pacified and explained the actual position through peaceful and calm means.
He added that the incident smacks of not only arrogance and apathy on the part of administration and police machinery but also lack of coordination among different wings of government. Even though government is expected to act against culprits who had duped these youngsters, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that more crucial for the law and order agencies is to understand importance of dealing such situations with compassion and sensitivity particular when it involves youth who are unemployed.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said unnecessary use of force against innocent youth can prove counter-productive and can brew dangerous sentiments of vengeance in young minds which can later take the form of a violent outrage. He said that he is unable to understand why could not some senior BSF and police officers come forward to talk to these innocent boys who are like their own children. How the police could accuse these boys of creating a law and order problem when these boys were themselves at the receiving end of unlawful cheating and forgery by certain miscreants, he asked.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said the incident is in itself a reflection of the working of NC-Congress coalition government which on one hand talks of providing jobs to surrendered militant youth and on the other hand, uses canes and lathis against the youth who peacefully agitate for jobs. This could lead to dangerous consequences in a militancy prone state like Jammu and Kashmir where nearly seven lakh youth are educated and yet unemployed.
