Khoda inaugurates Jashan-e-Dal, stresses youth to excel in water sports

SRINAGAR, July 29:Dal Lake is identity of Kashmir and its dwellers have grown while playing in its waters. The Lake has boosted our tourism potential and economy for centuries. Dal has been inviting attention of natural beauty lovers and water sports person cutting across all geographical barriers and water sports has become a flourishing and fast spreading game in the valley.
This was stated by the Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda while inaugurating 3-day water Sports Festival ‘’Jashan-e-Dal’’ at a colourful function held at Nehru Park this evening. The mega event is being organized by JKP under its Civic Action Programme.
Elaborating the importance for organizing such festivals by Jammu and Kashmir Police, the DGP said that the Organization has been holding the festivals to provide an opportunity to the sports loving youth to come forward and demonstrate their efficiency and skill in different sports activities. Such activities help to boost sports culture among the youth and provides a platform for the talented sports persons of the State to display their skill rather to live in close compartments, he added.
Khoda said that the department is always eager to organize such events with the aim to facilitating an integrated sports environment for holistic development of our youth.
Emphasising upon the participation in sports activities, the DGP said that such activities keeps the sports lovers physically and mentally fit, besides creating a spirit of tolerance and to work together. He stressed for the participation of the youth in sports, disclosing that sports have been now providing a bright career to the talented youth.
Khoda appreciated the people especially the youth for their interest in such festivals and said that mass participation of the people have encouraged the organization to hold such events under its Civic Action Progamme in a bigger way.
Earlier, the Additional Director General of Police Armed/Law & Order, K. Rajendra Kumar, who is also Organizing Secretary of the festival, while giving details said that during the 3-day festival, more than 600 athletes are participating in various events. He said that these athletes would excel in shikara race, dem boat race, dragon boat race, kayak and canoe, water polo and swimming. Prizes among the winners would be distributed at closing function, he disclosed.
