Militants plant 3 IEDs NH1-A, major tragedy averted | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 29:A major tragedy was averted today with the timely detection of three IEDs planted by militants in a local bus near Lower Munda toll post on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in Anantnag district. The bus was on its way from Srinagar to Jammu and the two suspects carrying the IEDs had boarded it at Batamaloo bus stand here. When alert passengers in the bus raised an alarm after noticing an unclaimed baggage, the people were asked to leave the vehicle and the suspected baggage was removed to an isolated spot, official sources said. "Two men carrying the bags did not board the bus again as the driver had stopped to pay toll tax at Lower Munda. The passengers got alert when they found the two persons missing from the bus," the sources said. They said a bomb disposal squad later found three pressure cooker IEDs inside the baggage. The IEDs were detonated through a controlled explosion, and no damage was caused. Traffic on the Highway had to be suspended for nearly an hour during which the bomb disposal squad carried out its job.
