| Militant killed in encounter | | |

SRINAGAR, July 30:
A militant was killed today in a gunfight with security forces in
Kupwara district.
According to police sources, after getting specific information about
the presence of a militant in a residence at Rationpora village in
north Kashmir, the security forces launched a search operation to
flush out the hiding terrorist.
The troops surrounded the house where the militant had taken refuge.
"The militant was asked to surrender but he started firing,
triggering an encounter," sources said. The militant's identity is
being established.
