Policeman, unidentified gunman Raj in J&K: Mehbooba | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jul 31: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has strongly condemned the killing in custody of Naazim Rashid in Sopore today. Ordering a probe in every atrocity has become a ritual for the Chief Minister as none of such inquiries has ever resulted in any action against culprits. Suspension of an official, she said is a temporary device to manage anger for a few days and then no follow-up action is taken. This is evident from the fate of the investigation that was promised in many cases and especially in cold blooded murder of three youth, Sujaat-ul-Islam, Imtiyaz Ahmed and Ishtiyaq Ahmed last year in Islamabad (Anantnag). Chief Minister had promised action within 24 hours, but the promise has not been fulfilled even one year later. She said the custodial killing of Naazim Rashid was the unfortunate consequence of the government license to police and security forces to use all methods for maintenance of a surface calm, to mislead public opinion about its repressive governance. Expressing deep grief and shock at the tragedy that has met the young man at the hands of police Mehbooba said this death has added another tragedy in the sad story of Kashmir. “Such tragedies would continue to happen as the government has not punished even one killer out of the 120 young man murdered on the streets of Kashmir last year”, she said. Mehbooba said unless the government changed its perception and policy towards the people of the state such unfortunate incidents would continue. People’s Democratic Party has been cautioning the government from time to time against muzzling public opinion and dissent but it is sad to notice that the state government is getting more and more arrogant. It seems it has gone against the youth of this state out of some vengeance and allowing them to be targeted through unknown gunmen and police.
