Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jul 31: Chanting vedic hymns, the Chhari Mubarak, the Holy Mace of Lord Shiva, was today taken to ancient Sharika Bhawani temple on Hari Parvat in downtown city on the occasion of “Shravan Shukla Paksha Pradipada” as per age old traditions.
Led by Mahant Deependra Giri, the custodian of Chhari Mubarak, a sizable number of devotees, including sadhus, were present when the Holy Mace was taken out from Shri Amareshwar Temple, Akhara building, located at a stones throw away from headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) at Maisuma.
The chhari was later taken to ancient Sharika-Bhawani temple to pay obeisance to the Goddess on the occasion of “Shravan Shukla Paksha Pradipada”, as per age-old traditions. Goddess Sharika-Bhawani, popularly known as “Tripursundari”, amongst the mystics is believed to be “Isht Devi” (Presiding Deity) of the Srinagar city who manifested herself in a figure of “Shila” (Holy Rock) at Hari-Parvat.
Sadhus, who participated in the pujan, prayed for everlasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Traditional “Chhari-Pujan” shall be performed on the occasion of “Nag-Panchami” which falls on August 4 at Shri Amareshwar Temple. Yesterday, the Chhari was taken to historic Shankarcharya temple on the bank of Dal Lake on the occasion of “Haryalic-Amavasya” as per age old customs.
A spokesman in the ‘ The True Trust”, founded in 2004 by Mahant Giri, Ashok Giri said pujan was performed chanting Vedic hymns by a sizable number of sadhus and pilgrims. Chhari Mubarak was later taken back to Akhara temple. Collective prayers were also offered for peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir State.
He said the trust shall make all the necessary arrangements for sadhus and other devotees coming from across the country to join Chhari-Mubarak. The Chhari-Mubarak shall be taken to “Sharika-Bhawani” Temple in the downtown city to pay obeisance to the Goddess tomorrow.
The 46-day-long annual pilgrimage to holy Amarnath Cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalyas will conclude on August 13 when the holy Mace will be taken inside the cave shrine on Rakshbandan.
