EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHMAPUR, July 31: In a tragic road accident, one person was killed and 44 others sustained injuries when an overloaded mini-bus rolled down into nullah at Salmeh near the Ladden Power house ten kilometers short of Udhampur city on Barmeen-Udhampur road under the jurisdiction of Udhampur Police Station this morning.

The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK14A-1323 was on its way from Barmeen to Udhampur when at Salmeh it met with tragic accident due to the negligence of the driver. Notwithstanding the poor condition of single road, the driver was carrying overloaded bus which went out of his control at a sharp curve. Due to this, the vehicle rolled down into 30 feet deep nullah killing one person on the spot and critically injuring 44 others.

The person killed in the accident was identified as Rattan Chand son of Julfi Ram resident of Sughlar, Laddan .

On getting information about the tragic accident, Police rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with the active support of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans.

Out of 44 injured in the mishap two seriously injured Hem Raj son of Nek Ram resident of Ansoo and Isher Dass son of Ludhar Mani resident of Kotli Bala were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for treatment. Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner, Baseer Ahmed Khan accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur Shakeel Ahmed Beig and other senior officers visited the hospital to take stock of medicare facilities being provided to the injured.

The accident once again exposed that there is no rule of law on the roads particularly in the remote areas and Government has virtually surrendered especially before the mini bus operators, who are plying vehicles at their own whims and fancy in sheer violation of traffic and motor vehicle rules right under the nose of the concerned authorities.
