PAC for making drilling machine functional

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 01 31: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Legislative Assembly on Monday took serious note of non-functioning of drilling machine, which was purchased by the Industries Department earlier at a cost of over Rs 3 crore.
The Committee, which met under the Chairmanship of Mir Saifullah asked the concerned to make the machine functional immediately. The Committee discussed in detail the CAG’s audit report about purchase of the drilling machine.
Inspector General Crime, Mr. Raja Aijaz Ali informed the meeting that investigation is in progress and as soon as the investigation is completed, it would be submitted.
The Committee directed the IG Crime to complete the investigation within 2 months.
Discussing the audit paras of handicrafts department, the meeting was informed that the department has imparted training to 7662 unskilled youth in different crafts involving stipend worth Rs 1.70 crore during 2010-11.
In order to promote the sales of finished goods, the department conducted 15 exhibitions from which 3445 artisans benefitted, the meeting was told.
Under Rajiv Gandhi Bima Yojana as many as 2047 beneficiaries were covered and Rs 45.67 lakh revenue realized by the department during 2010-11.
Legislators, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Mr. Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, syed Basharat Ahmad Bukhari, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, Mr. Vikar Rasool Wani, Peer Mansoor Hussain, Smt. Bimla Luthra, Mr. Abdul Gaffar Sofi and Mr. Naresh Kumar Gupta gave suggestions for improvement in handicrafts, Geology and Mining, Industries, SIDCO, SICOP, JK Cement and Handloom departments.
Commissioner/Secretary, Industries, Mr. Umang Narula, Inspector General of Crime Mr. Raja Aijaz Ali, Deputy Accountant General, AG, office Mr. Tsewang Tharchand, Director General, Accounts & Treasuries, Mr. Wali Mohammad Bhat, Director Geology and Mining, Director Industries, Kashmir, Director Handicrafts, Managing Director, Handloom and other concerned officers of handicrafts, handloom, Geology and Mining, KVIB, SIDCO, SICOP, JK Cement, Industries and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
