Five-day workshop on “Broadcasting Skills” starts at DLL | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 1: With the objective to reach out to the youth and enhance their employability skills and develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the basic skills and techniques necessary to produce audio production work in radio broadcasting, the Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, today organized a five-day workshop on “Radio Broadcasting Skills” at the Seminar Hall of DLL from Ist August 2011 to 5th August 2011. The workshop was inaugurated by Poonam Dhawan, director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu. Ravi Magotra, Programme Head, Radio Kashmir Jammu and Rita Jitendra, eminent broadcaster were the special guests at the inaugural function. Nitish Arora, senior Programme Officer, Radio Kashmir Jammu, Kavita Suri, Assistant Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, DLL Faculty members including Priyanka Sharma, Bharti Prabhakar, Pallavi Sachdeva, Sandeep Singh, Vivek Sharma, Sita Anand, Rewa Khajuria and many others were also present at the occasion. This five-day workshop on “Broadcasting Skills” will conclude on 5th August, brings together the best resource persons in the field of broadcasting who would dwell upon various themes related to broadcasting like history of broadcasting, AIR code, communication and presentation skills, pronunciation and articulation, radio drama, writing for radio, features, documentaries, art of interviewing, radio as an agent of change, compering variations etc. In her inaugural address Poonam Dhawan said the Department of Lifelong Learning is committed to social development and is working in this direction through its capacity enhancement and capacity development programmes run under continuing education schemes of the DLL. “The workshop provides an overview of the Indian radio industry, a glimpse inside what goes on behind the microphone, as well as some of the techniques used to produce a professional radio show. The primary focus of the workshop is to train students to communicate effectively in a variety of different broadcasting situations. This module developed by Radio Kashmir Jammu and DLL is designed to give the learners the range of skills required to present radio and television programmes to a professional standard. The mode of teaching and delivery by our well known experts is intended to encourage the candidate to manage and produce broadcast work to a high standard in a simulated workplace environment,” said Poonam Dhawan. Speaking at the inaugural function, Ravi Magotra, Programme Head, Radio Kashmir Jammu said there has been a tremendous growth in broadcasting in India in the recent years and Radio has truly matured as a medium of communication with more operators and competition. He said in addition to broadcasting being allowed in the private sector, low cost community radio centers with a five km range are being allotted to various educational institutions.
