SPIC MACAY organized dance recital by Rama Vaidyanathan | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, August 1: The Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu & Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sunjuwan, in association with the SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music & Culture Amongst Youth) arranged a dance recital by Rama Vaidyanathan, an exponent of Bharat Natyam at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium. Programme commenced with the lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp by Rama Vaidyanathan, Usha Shamendra, Principal, KV, Sunjuwan, Professor N K Tripathi, Dean students welfare and Prof. Jasbir Singh, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, University of Jammu. In her Lecture-cum- Demonstration, Rama Vaidyanathan revealed that Bharat Natyam is one of the ancient Classical Dance forms of India. Devdasies used to perform it in the temples of Southern part of the country. Rama started her performance with “Anjali”, offering prayer to the Almighty. It was followed by “Mayur-Allaripu”, “Navrasa Mohana” depicting nine types of emotions. “Durga Vandana” was another highlight of her presentations. Dakshina Vaidyanathan, the young daughter of Rama Vaidyanathan, spellbound the audience with her superb performance “Shambhu- Natnam”, the cosmic dance commonly known as “Tandava”. She was supported by the India’s Noted Artistes, Indu Nair, Vocalist, Arun Kumar, Mridangam Player, VSK Chakrapani, Violinist and Dakshna Vaidyanathan as Dancer and Nattuvangam player. Interacting with the media persons, Prof. N K Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare said that this is an endeavor of the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu to develop a sense of appreciation of the younger generation towards our rich Culture Heritage.
