EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 1 (KNS): 44TH series of popular environment programme ‘tree talk’ was held at Doodhpathri in which more than 200 people participated. Prominent participants included DIG Crime, Yoginder Kaul, CJM Handwara V S Bhau, Principal District Session Judge Bandipore, Mohammad Akram Chaudhary, Sub Judge Pattan, Mahmood Chaudhary , S P R C Mannotra, Principal Vijay Memorial School Ganderbal, Ghulam Mohammad, Dr Khursheed Ganaie from Islamia College, Tassaduq Mueen, Advocate G H Khan, Botanist Shogufta Mushtaq, O P Sharma, Ritu Verma and Hema Bashir. CJM Handwara said that name Doodhpathri is derived from its milky white water spring which was exposed with a spiritual touch of stick by famous Sufi Saint Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) whose association with the place is 400 years old. DIG Yoginder Kaul said that Doodhpathri is 42 km from Srinagar and falls in Pir Panchal Division of Budgam District. Senior Forest Officer, O P Sharma shared that SFRI had established Ecorestoration Unit in S-1A Reeyar in 2003-4 and has introduced useful trees like Bren, Brimij, Kanjalkul, Chhatterkul, Robinia, Veer, Frast, English Oak, Hadi, Handun. Medicinal plant nursery spread over half ha area , conifer nursery with 3 lac plant potential and broadleaved plant nursery also stand established by SFRI at Reeyar. ‘Tree talk’ discussed various issues concerning forest, water resources, ecotourism, traditional fruits, wild vegetables, menace of illicit deforestation, role of society and student community in preservation of environment.
