CVPA demands Pahari status, Chenab Valley Hill Development Council for the region | | |  EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 1: Today Chenab Valley People’s Association (CVPA) held its first general meeting in Jammu at University campus Hundreds of enthusiastic activists of CVPA participated in the meeting. The general body meeting was followed by the election of the Chenab Valley People’s Association. Fairoz Khan from district Ramban was unanimously elected the first president of Chenab Valley People’s Association. He took the pledge to serve the people of the Chenab valley i.e the people of districts Ramban, Doda & Kishtwar and also raise the voice for the people of the state against the injustice. Joginder Singh Thakur from Doda and Narender Sharma from Kishtwar were elected as state vice presidents of the new body. On the occasion elected office bearers were garlanded and sweets were distributed to the people. It was resolved in the meeting that the other bodies of districts and university will be announced within a week and the bodies of blocks and colleges will be formed within a month. Later it held a press conference wherein the state president Fairoz Khan said Chenab valley is in Jammu region in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Lying in the middle and outer Himalayan ranges of Jammu region of J&K State; the valley has mostly a hilly terrain. In view of its vastness and due to the inconvenience faced by people living in its far-flung areas and for making the whole area administratively un manageable, by the State Governments, it include districts namely Doda, Ramban & Kishtwar. Chenab valley possesses rich cultural heritage and ethical values but also is popular for its age-old traditions of secularism and the spirit of tolerance, which have been since times immemorial, binding the people together. The peaceful co-existence in this vast area has been possible only because of the observance in letter and spirit of these traditions which have since long been guiding the very destinies of the people professing varied faiths. The Chenab valley people should be given first preference in all the Hydel projects of Chenab valley. Feroz Khan urged the government for establishing Phari Hostels for students of Chenab valley, on the pattern of Pharari and Ladkhi students hostels established for higher education. On this occasion the state president Fairoz khan started the membership drive and asked the people of Chenab valley to fully participate in it. Ends---¬
