Fai Connection -- II It's time for interlocutors | to quit and say goodbye | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 1: Now that the American spy agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has exposed those from India, including Dileep Padgaonkar and Radha Kumar, it is time for these two interlocutors for Jammu and Kashmir to quit and say goodbye. They now stand condemned and they are unwanted. The expose has only vindicated those who had been opposing these interlocutors ever since their appointment saying they were more or less aliens whose single-point agenda was to unsettled the settled issue and further strengthen the hands of those in Kashmir who had been working overtime to dismember India. The expose has created in Jammu province such a situation that no one with any self-respect would now go near these interlocutors. The BJP has expressed itself against Padgaonkar and Radha and demanded a stringent action against them for their association with Ghulam Nabi Fai, ISI agent and American national of Kashmir origin. Both Padgaonkar and Radha had, like Kuldip Nayar, Rajinder Sachhar, Gautam Navlakha, Jitendra Bakshi and so on, it needs to be noted, participated in anti-India seminars on Jammu and Kashmir - seminars organized to promote the Pakistani line on Jammu and Kashmir and establish that the Indian presence in the state was illegal and against the wishes of the people of Kashmir. Fai was arrested by the FBI on the charge that he had lobbied for Pakistan in the United States for about 20 years to influence the US policy on Jammu and Kashmir without registering himself with the competent authority. If the BJP -- whose own role in the state has been quite controversial -- has demanded action against the controversial interlocutors, the attitude of the RSS has been no different. In fact, the attitude of the RSS is more hostile and it can be seen from the fact that its Study Circle dropped the idea of holding two-day-long round table conference in Jammu in the last week of July this year (July 29 and 30). The RSS had put in lot of efforts for the purpose but it had to cancel the scheduled round table conference under pressure from people, including some senior RSS men. The attitude of the Panther Party has been no different. The fact of the matter is that the Panthers Party had never appreciated the move of the government to appoint persons like Padgaoknar as interlocutors. The BJP, the RSS and the Panthers Party are not the only organizations which have taken on the controversial interlocutors. There are several other organizations in Jammu which have, like the BJP and the RSS, also denounced these interlocutors as "anti-India." There are reasons to believe that the interlocutors may face the people's ire in case they muster courage to visit Jammu. Hence, it would be only desirable if they put in their papers and quit sooner than later. Their association with Fai and participation in the anti-India seminars in countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Belgium, to mention only a few, has sealed their fate for all the times to come. For, no genuine Indian would ever buy their argument that they were not aware of the credentials of Fai or they were not aware of Fai's connection with Pakistan and its ISI. (concluded) |
