Shaheena jobless even after 1 yr of hubby's death in encounter, questions Omar's rehab policy | | | Asif Iqbal Naik kishtwar, Aug 1: Shaheena lost husband, SPO Masood Ahmad Wani in an encounter with militants at Dachchan here on August 30 last year. Since then, she is running from pillar to post for a government job under SRO 43. Police department took nearly a year to complete the compensation case of Rs 2 lakh in her favour but the money had still not been given to her. While she is entitled for only Rs 2 lakh compensation, a civilian killed in a militancy related incident is entitled for Rs 5 lakh compensation or a job under SRO 43 or in some cases, both. It was on August 30, 2010, when Wani of Kursa was killed in an attack by militants on police post, Dachhan. "He could have easily saved his own life, but sacrificed it while trying to stop the militants from taking his weapon," said Shaheena. She said though her husband lost his life for the sake of the nation, she was running from pillar to post in search for justice. Police and revenue department took nearly an year to issue her the dependent certificate, she regretted and asked, "Is it justice?" "I took rounds of offices carrying my six month old child who was born after my husband's death," she added. "To feed myself and my minor children, I nowadays wash utensils in houses," Shaheena said. She claimed that the government had refused to provide any job to her as she was illiterate. Commenting on chief minister Omar Abdullah's rehabilitation policy for the Kashmiri militants in Pakistan, she said, "If he can think of those who were in Pakistan, can't he provide job to the widow of a SPO who sacrificed his life for the country?" Let Omar first provide her a job and "then think of those who were on other side of the border", she added. She said even if she was illiterate, the government should prove her a job under SRO 43 as the Rs 2 lakh compensation was not enough for her to feed her children. It is worthwhile to mention here that Government of India, during NDA regime, had issued directions to the state government to follow the progress of various cases pertaining to the killings of security forces or police officials including SPO's for speedy disbursement of the relief to the affected families. But in the case of Shaheena, no such procedure is being adopted. |
