While Govt promoted breast feeding police ‘snatched’ a Sopore mother's son | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 1: The paid campaign of the state government about breast feeding was lauded by one and all. The purpose and object of the government campaign was also hailed. The government, as the campaign conveyed, is genuinely concerned about the health and long life of the subjects. Hence the campaign. The images carried by newspapers depict unparalleled love of a mother for his child. The mother's love for her child is unmatched. It cannot be described in words. It is to be felt and understood. Yesterday when the government was sending advertisements to local newspapers as part of the said campaign, a Sopore mother lost her child whom she had breast fed for several years. This time he was not in his mother's lap. He was in the custody of people supposed to uphold the rights including right to life of the people of this neglected state. He was tortured to death by the custodians of law while his mother waited for his return impatiently. A mother never accepts her child's short comings. For her, he is always innocent and law abiding. Similarly the law that governs this state says a person is innocent until proved guilty. The law further requires the investigating agency to arrest a person for the wrongs he commits and put him on trial. The law does not allow men in uniform to award punishment on their own. But in a state where the government is obsessed with having a calm summer, anything can happen in torture chambers. For the government it was a routine incident. The MOS Home urged people to stay calm. He also appealed to the people not to listen to rumours. But, the heavens fell on the mother when he received the shocking news. One more enquiry has been ordered. The findings will never be made public. The people will forget the incident in a week or two. But the mother will feel the pain `even in her grave' because breast feeding makes mother-child relation special. Does the government know it? |
