Army organises medical camp, ex-servicemen rally in north Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Aug 2: About 1000 villagers from far-flung and remote areas in the frontier district of Kupwara attended a medical camp, where they were provided free medicine and briefed about proper nutrition, hygiene and sanitation.
An ex-servicemen rally was also organised, which attracted a large number of locals, presenting a festive look.
A defence ministry spokesman said here today that a medical camp and ex-servicemen rally was organised at Chowkibal in the frontier district of Kupwara yesterday.
He said during the day-long camp, five medical officers from Army and civil including an eye specialist, dentist, medical specialist and a lady gynaecologist attended the patients of the area, some of whom had come after trekking several kms hilly area.
About 1000 patients, including 342 women and 231 children were treated in the camp.
He said the common ailments treated during the medical camp were Hypertension, Anemia, Asthma, pregnancy related problems and dental problems.

Free medicines were distributed among the patients, he said adding the people were also educated about the essential requirements of proper nutrition, hygiene and sanitation.
Games for children were also organised at the venue.
To foster the spirit of camaraderie and enhancing bonding of ex-servicemen and locals with the serving personnel of the Indian Army, an ex-servicemen rally was also organised. The event turned out to be a great success owing to the overwhelming response from the veteran soldiers and locals of the region.
He said during the rally the exservicemen were provide useful information regarding the welfare schemes introduced by the central and state Governments, employment opportunities and ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme.
Additional counters of Canteen Stores Department (CSD), Army Insurance Policies, Banking and Mobile recharge were also established for the benefit of the ex-servicemen.
