2,810 pilgrims leave base camps for holy Amarnath cave | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Aug 2: The lowest number of 2810 pilgrims today left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where so far about 6.30 lakh yatris had darshan of the self made ice Shivlingam since June 29. The 46-day-long annual pilgrimage will conclude on August 13, when the '' Chhari Mubarak '', holy Silver Mace of Lord Shiva will be taken inside the cave shrine before starting return journey in the afternoon. Today the lowest of 2810 pilgrims, since June 29, left the base camps for the cave shrine through shortest Baltal and traditional Nunwan Pahalgam routes. Yatra officials said 1,110 pilgrims left for the holy cave shrine from shortest Baltal route while 1,700 yatris started their pilgrimage through traditional Pahalgam route this morning. They said the yatra was progressing smoothly but the number of pilgrims has come down as compared to first four weeks when the figure crossed 20,000 daily. Majority of the pilgrims, who had darshan, have since returned to their homes. However, 89 pilgrims and two local porters have died during the pilgrimage this year. Majority of them have died due to cardiac arrest.
