Youth Cong sensitises people about deteriorating Mansar lake
8/2/2011 9:19:44 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
MANSAR, Aug 2:

While organizing a new and novel-style interaction with people putting up around Mansar lake, Pradesh Youth Congress led by R S Pathania, senior Vice President, called for a greater civilian initiative for saving the deteriorating Mansar lake. Pathania told the people having assembled over there that the water-levels of lake are continuously receding and excessive pollution/contamination in the lake is threatening the flora and fauna and thereby creating a worst sort of ecological and environmental crisis over there. Unplanned construction and incessant deforestation around the lake have threatened the very sustainability of the lake which possesses immense historic, religious, aesthetic, scientific, research-driven and scientific importance significance. Pathania appealed the people to shift the cremation ground from the banks of
Mansar lake.
Pathania was much vocal about the discriminatory and lackadaisical attitude of the authorities-that-be towards the Mansar lake. It has now been about five years back that an exclusive development authority has come to be sanctioned here. Although crores have been spent on beautification/preservation of the historic lake, but least is visible on ground. Moreso, government is yet to adopt a Master Plan for the residential area around the lake. The Development Authority has failed to liaise with government agencies and NGOs/organisations to initiate a comprehensive long-term programme for conservation of the lake.
While submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister, Pathania demanded formulation of a local Monitoring Committee which shall associate local people with the developmental-cum–beautification works going on over here in order to ensure greater accountability and public emancipation. He immediately called for stopping of drinking-water supply from the lake to adjoining residential areas as the water-levels of Mansar lake were continuously receding.
