Roads buttress economy, Omar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 3 : Highlighting the importance of dependable road communication in the integrated development and economic uplift of the state, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that roads buttress progress and generate wide-ranging economic activities for the people.
Inaugurating 5-looped 38.5 kms Lethpora-Panthachowk loop road project at Lethpora this morning, the Chief Minister said that his government has focused on constructing, upgrading and widening of roads all across the state to improve connectivity and link up far off areas with main highways.
Mr Abdullah said that inter-district road projects and main highways to provide alternate routes are receiving concentrated attention.
''Boring tunnels in various areas to link the inaccessible and cut-off areas and make travel easy and faster between various districts is also on focus,'' he added.
He said that there is constant rapport between the state and the National Highways Authority of India to upgrade the National Highway and fast track the construction of 4-lane, 400 kms Lakhanpur- Srinagar National Highway.
Interacting with the people on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that while a network of roads is coming up under PMGSY in the state, the work on the construction of two tunnels of about 9 km length each has been started at Banihal and Chenani.
Mr Abdullah said that the construction of a By-Pass from Galender to Narbal via Yechgam, Budgam has been approved and possibilities are being worked out to put its construction on PPP mode.
He said he has also approved the 4-lanning of Boulevard road from Dal Gate to Kralsangri at a cost of Rs 60 cores on the bank of Dal Lake.
